	The American Council of the Blind of Ohio seeks an executive
director to oversee the organization's daily operations, work closely
with its elected officials to craft and implement budgets, policies, and
short- and long-term plans for the organization, and supervise a small
staff.  He/she disseminates information about the organization to the
press and the general public including current and prospective members.

	The salary ranges from $25 thousand to $40 thousand; benefits
are negotiable.

Position Description
Executive Director
American Council of the Blind of Ohio 
	The American Council of the Blind of Ohio strives to enhance the
quality of life and promote the independence of blind and visually
impaired Ohioans. 
Responsibilities: 
	Reporting to the board of directors, the executive director is
responsible for all business operations, including management of the
assets of ACB-Ohio; hiring, training, promotion, discipline and
termination of employees; and for establishing and maintaining the
business organization and structure to efficiently conduct the
management functions of ACB-Ohio. 
In addition to providing counsel to the board as necessary, the
executive director implements board policies and ensures that directives
issued by the board to other staff members are carried out as requested.

For the board of directors, the executive director: 
	
	* Develops and recommends to the board of directors, specific,
written, long and short-range plans for the development of ACB-Ohio
programs and services.
	* Maintains appropriate relations with the board and various
board committees, and keeps them informed.
	* Interprets trends in the fields of service in which ACB-Ohio
is engaged, by maintaining involvement in the professional field as a
whole.
	* Assists with orientation and training programs for the board. 
For the ACB-Ohio staff, the executive director: 
	
	* Supervises and directs key staff in the performance of their
duties.
	* Evaluates the performance of key staff members. 
	* Provides overall control of and direction for the personnel of
ACB-Ohio, including active participation in or approval of personnel
actions. 
	* Manages volunteer staff activities. 
The executive director will focus on the following areas: 
	* Planning, including the evaluation of existing services as
they relate to goals and suggesting modification of those services as
necessary; recommends new programs to the board
	* Finance: Prepares budgets for board approval and is
accountable for the proper allocation of resources as approved by the
board; directs all financial operations of ACB Ohio 
	* Membership Relations: Work with ACBO members to ensure that
communication between the organization and its members is ongoing
	* Public Relations: The executive director serves as a
spokesperson for the organization and oversees distribution of public
information-related materials to the public and press 
	* Interagency relations: Work closely with other professional
and service groups in the community; maintains relationships with other
agencies and organizations in the field of blindness and other
disabilities; works with federal, state, and local entities as
necessary. 
	* Internal Operations: Work to create and modify policies that
promote the efficient use of ACBO resources; carry out policies as
crafted and directed by the board. 
DESIRED TRAITS AND CHARACTERISTICS: 
	
	The executive director will have strong communication skills,
both oral and written, and will be a creative and effective leader. S/he
must have demonstrated ability in developing and implementing clear
goals, systems and priorities and have strategic problem solving skills.
Familiarity and experience with information technology will be valued. 
Leading candidates will embrace the vision, core values and philosophy
of the American Council of the Blind of Ohio. The executive director
must become keenly aware of the needs and issues facing visually
impaired and blind Ohioans and must be a strong advocate for them. 
COMPENSATION:
	
	Annual compensation will range from $25,000 to $40,000 and will
be commensurate with experience. Relocation assistance is negotiable.
