In one week in June, the Department of Justice posted updated ADA
regulations for public comment and the ADA Amendments Act, reached
through compromise between disability and business communities, started
on the fast-track for Congressional approval. This kind of significant
movement in legislative and regulatory guidance is unusual in the world
of disability services. How will the changes impact on higher education?
What matters - and what doesn't! - in the language used and the
explanations provided?<br>

</font><font size=2><b>Learning Points To Be Answered:</b>
<ul>
<li>How proposed changes to service animal regulations will help to
resolve many of the recent questions faced by postsecondary service
providers.</font><font size=3> </font>
<li><font size=2>How new language regarding demands for documentation by
testing agencies may work to the benefit of students pursuing graduate
and professional education.</font><font size=3> </font>
<li><font size=2>What has been added to the definition of a "person
with a disability," and why.</font><font size=3> </font>

these changes, and how to respond to concerns of administrators.
</ul><br>
<b>Jane E. Jarrow,</b> Ph.D., is the President of Disability Access
Information and Support (DAIS). Dr. Jarrow was a full-time faculty member
at The Ohio State University in Speech/Language Pathology for seven years
before assuming a position as the Executive Director of the Association
on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). (AHEAD is an international
professional membership organization providing technical assistance,
information, and support to individuals involved in issues of disability
access in higher education.) Dr. Jarrow is a skilled presenter and speaks
knowledgeably about the legal and educational mandates surrounding the
participation of persons with disabilities in postsecondary settings.
Throughout her 14-year tenure with AHEAD, and in her current position
with DAIS, Dr. Jarrow has traveled extensively presenting workshops and
training sessions focused on these issues. Through DAIS, Dr. Jarrow also
provides technical assistance, online professi onal development courses,
participates in grant writing and editing, and is the author/publisher of
a number of significant resource materials.<br><br>
<b>Michael R. Masinter</b> has been a Professor of Law at Nova
Southeastern University's Shepard Broad Law Center in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida since 1978 and a member of the Florida Bar since 1973. He
teaches, writes and speaks about, and litigates disability rights and
compliance issues including those relating to therapy pets, companion
animals and service animals. Before joining the NSU faculty, Professor
Masinter was director of litigation for Florida Rural Legal Services,
Inc. He is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and Stanford
University.<br><br>
