Hello everyone,
We would like to encourage dialogue on the Diversity Initiative listserv
and so have the following scenario for your reaction/comment. Hope to
hear from you - just reply to the listserv or send a message to
diversity at ahead-lists.org <BLOCKED::mailto:diversity at ahead-lists.org>
Case Scenario
A student comes from a background where disability is not disclosed and,
in fact, students attempt to "hide it" in her culture. This student has
a visual loss and is requesting and does qualify for 1.5x on her exams.
However, she has comes to your office after your established deadline
for coordinating exam accommodations. To what extent would you move the
deadline for the student and accommodate her in the current exam period?
To what extent should the cultural background of a student be taken into
account in making this decision?
Sincerely,
Ruth Warick
